You must be 18 or older to gamble for money in Denmark. The content on this page is written for adults, and we don't recommend anything to anyone under 18. If you share a computer or phone with children or young people in the household, filter software and a device password are a very small effort for a very large peace of mind.
The age limit is not a formality. The earlier you start gambling for money, the greater the risk that it will develop in an unfortunate direction later.
ROFUS is the Gambling Authority's register of voluntarily excluded players. If you register, Danish operators licensed by the Gambling Authority must not let you play, and they may not send you marketing. You can choose a temporary exclusion of 24 hours, one month or three months – or a permanent exclusion.
Be aware of one commonly misunderstood point: ROFUS applies to providers that hold a Danish license. Casinos operating solely under an international license are not connected to the scheme and will not be blocked by your registration. That's one of the reasons we've written a separate page about licenses.
StopSpillet is the public helpline for gambling problems. You can call or write anonymously and free of charge, whether it's about yourself or someone close to you. The advisers are used to the conversation and don't expect you to have anything figured out before you call.
You can find the scheme at stopspillet.dk, and you can read more about rules, licences and exclusion at the Gambling Authority. If the situation is acute, or if it also involves debt, finances or wellbeing, your GP is a sensible place to start – gambling problems rarely occur alone.
Some patterns recur when play stops being entertainment: you play to win back lost money, you play for larger amounts than you had decided, you borrow or shuffle money around to keep playing. You hide how much you play. You think about gambling when doing other things. You become irritable if you can't play.
If you recognize two or three of the points, it's not proof of anything — but it's a good time to talk to someone. It won't get easier to have the conversation in six months.
Set a deposit cap before you start, and make it an amount you could spend on a trip to the cinema without thinking about it. Set a time limit and let an alarm interrupt you — time disappears quickly in a gaming session. Turn off marketing emails and push notifications. Don't save card details in the browser.
And a simple rule that's more effective than it sounds: don't chase losses at all. The decision to keep playing because you're behind is the choice that most often turns a bad night into a problem.
All slot machines are built with a built-in advantage for the provider. It's not a bug in the system, it's the business model itself, and no strategy, staking pattern or time of day changes that. So assume the money is spent the moment it is deposited.
We write about games because the mechanics are interesting and because the numbers are worth understanding. We do not write about games because it's a way to make money. We try to maintain that distinction on every single page here.
