King of Olympus — review

Playtech Origins is the part of Playtech that delivers classic craftsmanship without big flourishes, and King of Olympus from 19. januar 2026 fits that description. The title promises the king himself, and the engine beneath it is the cascading mechanic that half the shelf shares.

King of Olympus under the microscope

The numbers: RTP 95,47 %, maximum win 5.000 times the stake. Volatility is not stated, which is a bit unsatisfactory from a house of that size. The feature list, however, gives a fairly clear hint about how the game behaves.

0195,47 % compared to the shelf

Below 96 % places you in the lower half of the Olympus field. It's not catastrophic — there are titles in the pool with 93 and 94 % — but it's also not competitive compared to the 96,5 % and up that several major studios offer in the exact same genre.

The interesting thing is that Playtech has used the same numbers in other contexts, which suggests deliberate positioning rather than coincidence. You get a well-crafted product from a major supplier and pay for it with half a percentage point.

With a ceiling of 5.000 x there is also no extraordinary upside to compensate. The payout profile as a whole is therefore mid-to-low, and it's worth bearing in mind when choosing between thirty titles with the same theme.

02Volatility field is empty — but the list speaks for itself

There is no volatility label in the datasheet. On the other hand the feature list includes Avalanche, Cascading, Pay Anywhere, Scatter Pays and Gonzo mechanic, and that combination has a familiar profile: many dead spins, value concentrated in the chains that hold, and the bulk of the return in the bonus round.

You shouldn't let the missing label lead you to think it's a calm game. Everything in the design points to the volatile end, and that's how you should plan your budget.

If you're unsure, check the information in the game's own info screen. Playtech are usually thorough in the rules, even when the catalogue data is incomplete.

03Increasing multiplier and the four add-ons

Gonzo mechanic means a staircase multiplier: each successive chain raises the multiplier. In the bonus round it typically doesn't reset between spins, and Free Spins Multiplier on the list points exactly that way. Additional Free Spins means the round can be extended along the way.

There are both Buy Feature and Bonus Bet. Both are paid shortcuts: the buy button skips the base game and concentrates the risk, while a raised stake does so to a lesser degree. With a cap of only 5.000 x the buy button, by my calculation, is a poor bargain here — you pay full price for access to a round with limited upside.

Random multiplier fills out the picture. There's nothing in the list that isn't found at ten other providers in the same tier, but the execution from Playtech Origins tends to be stable and flawless across devices.

04Is the king's name enough?

The theme leans on gold, gems, weapons and the pale blue sky — the classic Olympus tableau without surprises. It's nicely done, but it's also the fourteenth time you've seen it, and there's no visual trick that makes this particular title memorable.

The argument for choosing King of Olympus is the provider. Playtech games run stably, are widely available and are not pulled from the catalogue after six months. For some players that matters more than half a percentage point in RTP.

The argument against is the rest of the shelf. If you play by the numbers, there are better buys with the same mechanics. And whatever you choose: 18-year age limit, ROFUS for self-exclusion if needed, stopspillet.dk if the game takes over.

From the demo round

Screenshots from King of Olympus

I played King of Olympus from Playtech with Total Bet 5,00 EUR. The game is a 6x5 cluster game with a collapse mechanic: eight or more identical symbols anywhere on the reels pay, the symbols explode, and new ones fall into the gaps. The scatter requirement is permanently shown at the bottom as 8+.

In the base game a cluster of eight rings paid 2,50 EUR and a full round paid 0,78 EUR on a 5,00 EUR bet. The Buy Feature costs 375,00 EUR at a base bet of 5,00 — i.e. 75 times the stake — and triggers 10, 12 or 14 free games.

I bought the feature and got 10 free games. The multiplier increases for each cluster: it ran from x3 up to x22 on the way, and the win grew from 1,50 EUR to 24,00 EUR and on to 33,50 EUR. The payout box on the left showed the actual payouts, including 9 green gemstones 1,00 EUR, 8 red diamonds 1,50 EUR, 8 blue triangles 0,50 EUR and 11 green gemstones 2,00 EUR.

The rule set

Game rules

Base game

The game is played on a 6-5 reel set. The published return is 95,47 %, and volatility is listed as —.

Round extension

If more scatters land during the free spins round, it is extended with extra spins. That's the mechanic that makes long rounds possible.

Avalanche mechanic

The reels clear winning symbols and let new ones fall down from above. One paid combination can thus turn into a longer sequence.

Bonus bet

With an increased stake, the frequency of bonus triggers rises. That does not change the game's theoretical return in your favour.

Bonus buy

The bonus round can be bought directly for a fixed amount of the stake instead of waiting for scatters. The price is shown in the game's buy window — and some operators turn the feature off.

Cascades

Symbols in a win are removed, and new ones fall down instead. The chain continues as long as new wins are formed by the fallen symbols.

Free spins

The scatter symbols trigger a round of free spins. The number of spins and the required number of scatters are shown in the game's info panel and can vary slightly between operators.

Final word from the summit

The verdict

Plus
  • Solid performance from a major provider with wide availability
  • Increasing multiplier in both base game and free spins
  • Pay Anywhere makes the rules easy to follow
Cons
  • 95,47 % RTP sits in the lower half of the Olympus field
  • Volatility is not disclosed in the datasheet
  • 5.000 x cap makes the buy button a poor bargain
  • The theme is the catalogue's standard issue without its own hook
6,9

King of Olympus is exactly what you expect from Playtech Origins: well-running, predictable and without bugs. That's also precisely the problem when competitors on the same shelf both have better RTP and higher caps. Choose it for the stability and accessibility, not for the numbers.
